BOSS HAPPY WITH RESPONSE

12 August 2019

SHRIMPS’ boss Jim Bentley said he was happy with his side’s response to the opening day defeat to Grimsby in gaining a point at Mansfield.

Although disappointed to see his side let a two goal lead slip Bentley felt there were plenty of positive signs to take from the game against one of the league’s promotion favourites.

He said: "It was an eventful game against one of the most fancied teams in the league.

"We started well and deserved out lead. We were well on top, got two goals and were desperately unlucky not to get a third through Adam Buxton’s amazing free kick that cold have killed them off if it had gone in.

“They way we started meant they had to change their system and it worked well for them and sometimes that happens. I was a little bit disappointed with the goal they conceded as I thought it was a foul on Steven Old in the build up but they were always going to put pressure on us.

“In Nicky Maynard and Danny Rose they have two of the best strikers at this level and they will always get chances and that is what happened.

‘They had a lot of the second half but there was another real turning point when Cole Stockton hit the post after a fantastic move and a minute later they went down the field and scored a second with a really good goal from Rose who showed once again just why he is so good at League 2 with a really good header.

“My main disappointment about the game is that I think we have a lot more in our tank.

“We were poor on the opening day against Grimsby and I wanted more in this game and definitely got it and I am sure we can only get better.''
