Phillips looking to find early season form

19 October 2021

Adam Phillips says that the Shrimps have to find the form they enjoyed in the opening months of the season.

The Shrimps fell to defeat at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium on Tuesday night, despite an equaliser from Phillips that came as a result of a rare backpass.

The resulting indirect free-kick was fired home by the Burnley loanee, who admits the Shrimps have to find the same form that they showed in the opening months of the campaign.

“We’ve shown that we can put good performances together,” he said.

“We started off the season really well, we’ve just got to find that form again and I’m sure the lads are confident that we can get the performances together and start picking up some results.

“We win together, and we lose together, it’s everyone, we all work hard for each other, and we’ll work on the training ground and make sure we put that right.”

Phillips’ equaliser on Tuesday night takes his scoring tally for the season up to six in all competitions, and whilst the 23-year-old is happy with his personal return, he’d rather see the Shrimps pick up three points.

He added: “I didn’t really know what was going on to be honest, I just saw the referee pointing at him [Cheltenham’s goalkeeper], telling him not to pick it up, then he picked it up.

“It’s another goal for me personally, but at the end of the day, I want to get the result for the team and I’m sure we’ll bounce back on Saturday and hopefully get the result.

“I don’t think we’ve played at home now for over a month, so it’ll be nice to get back there, and we’ll see if we can get the three points.”
