Weir buzzing to be back

6 August 2022

Jensen Weir says he is buzzing to be back playing football after missing large parts of last season due to injury.

The midfielder sustained a knee injury that kept him sidelined during his spell at fellow Sky Bet League One side Cambridge United during the 2021/22 campaign, and the midfielder has expressed his desire to improve on the 15 league appearances he made with the U’s.

“It was nice to be back out there playing football, I am still finding my feet but it is something to build on but I am buzzing to be back and looking forward to getting better,” said Weir.

“I found out on Friday that I was playing, so not much notice but plenty of time to prepare mentally, I am disappointed with the overall result but there were some positives to take for sure.

“There is a lot more to come from this team, I thought the system worked for a long time, there were moments that we were lacking that final pass, but that will come in time.”

The Shrimps came close to scoring on multiple occasions throughout the game, but were resigned to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Peterborough United, and Weir says it won’t be long before opportunities like his in the early stages of the game are taken.

“I thought I was in [from Cole Stockton’s pass inside the first 10 minutes], but the ball through just a little bit too much on it, however it is moments like that, that comes with time, those connections between players,” added Weir.

“Goals will start to come for sure, we had our chances, Peterborough are a really good side which is a credit to them, they are a team that will be up there come the end of the season.

“Points are important, it is good to play well but we want to come away with something to show for it, that will come, we have a good group of lads that will give everything every game, there is no doubt about that.”
