Robinson: “We should’ve won.”

5 February 2022

Stephen Robinson says his side should’ve come away with all three points following a 1-1 draw at home to Bolton Wanderers.

Cole Stockton’s 21st goal of the season in all competitions fired the home side in front on 73 minutes, however a late equaliser courtesy of Amadou Bakayoko in the fifth minute of time added on meant that the points were shared.

“We should’ve won,” Robinson said.

“We were the better team with 11 men, the better team with [when they had] 10 men, I thought we totally dominated, created all the chances, passed the ball in ridiculous conditions.

“I cut a very frustrated figure that we haven’t won the game, we missed a penalty which, we can’t be too critical of Cole [Stockton] for that, he’s carried us most of the season, we deserved to win the game.

“We were playing all the football, creating all the chances, we pressed them high up the pitch, as I say, I thought we totally dominated a side that has won four in a row and not conceded a goal in those games.

“Maybe it shows I’m absolutely gutted we haven’t won the game, and how far we’ve come in the last four or five weeks.”

The Shrimps responded well to midweek defeat against Sheffield Wednesday, and Robinson believes there wasn’t a bad performance in a Morecambe shirt.

He added: “I thought there was some very, very good performances today.

“I don’t think there was a bad performance throughout the 11, or the boys that came on, so it’s really hard of me to be critical.

“Every game is important now, we need to gather points, it’s another point against a very good side who are on a role.

“Let’s make no mistake, the size of club Bolton are, I’m gutted we didn’t win but before the game with the form they were in, we would’ve taken it.”
