Leigh confident Shrimps can pick up valuable points

21 January 2022

Full-back Greg Leigh says the team must concentrate on themselves and play like they have been in recent games, they will start picking up valuable points.

Wycombe Wanderers are the visitors to the Mazuma Stadium on Saturday and Leigh is confident that the side can match the league leaders on the day.

He said: “Wycombe have a completely different style to Wigan and some of the teams that try to play football in this division, it’s a test.

“It is League One, there are a lot of different styles in this division, we just have to make sure we are prepared for it and make sure we try and match them as best as we can.

“When you have a spell like we have coming up, especially February, you need to make sure you can pick up as many points as you can against the teams around you, all we need to do is focus on the way we play and we will pick up points.”

The 27-year-old provided the assist for Cole Stockton’s 16th league goal on Tuesday night against Wigan Athletic, and the defender has praised the way the Shrimps dominated the first 45 minutes of that fixture.

He added: “That’s all that I try and do, get the ball down and try and get crosses into the box, so we can try and get goals, so the fact that the cross ended up with a goal was a massive plus for me.

“The game on Tuesday was the best we’ve played for a while, with the ball and without the ball, it was a really dominating performance, especially the first-half.

“We get the goal and we feel like we are controlling the game, but to lose a goal with less than 30 seconds before the half was really disappointing because I thought we were the better side.”
