A message from Denby Murgatroyd

10 May 2022

Chief Steward Denby Murgatroyd has penned a message to supporters and staff after stepping down following more than 20 years' service at the Club.

I would like to show my appreciation and say thank you following my decision to step down from the position as Chief Steward, after working at the Club for over 20 years.

I would like to thank everyone for the gifts & kind messages I have received, and I would like to thank the hundreds of stewards & security personnel I have worked alongside, including Lingwood Security, FGH, JT, Carlisle United and many more.

Also, a thank you to our own MFC stewards that are not only a credit to me but to the Club.

In the dizzy heights of League One football, it is easy to forget that only a few years ago, a lot of the stewards still working at the ground turned up & worked, not knowing when or if they were going to get paid, the same that worked every game through the COVID-19 pandemic to play their part in making sure there was football played in those early days.

That alone speaks volumes for their dedication & love for the club, so please always try to continue to show them the respect they deserve.

I would also like to thank the Club staff, directors, the players, some of which I have known most of their playing careers, Stewart Drummond, Danny Carlton, Garry Thompson to name only a few.

My wife Kelly & I are godparents to Craig Stanley & Nikki’s daughter, Lola, which is something we are very honoured to be.

Many Clubs refer to their Club as being a big family, but none deserve that title more than the Morecambe FC family, which I hope to be part of in one way or another for a long time to come. All the best,

Denby
