Shaw thankful for Shrimps opportunity

2 September 2022

Midfielder Liam Shaw says he is thankful for the opportunity after securing a season-long deal with the Shrimps on deadline day.

“I’m really happy,” he said.

“It’s a big opportunity, I just want to thank the manager and this Club for giving me the opportunity.

“If you’ve got a manager who puts that confidence into you, it goes a long way and I just want to repay him by doing well on the pitch.

“My agent rang me on the day [deadline day] and told me Morecambe were interested, it didn’t take much for me to say yes, [I want to] come here and hopefully play a lot of games and do well for this Club.

“I just wanted to come and play games, the manager is really good and like I say, he’s given me that opportunity and I’m just happy to play here.

“I think it’s a really good Club, a really nice set-up and I can’t wait to get started.”

After signing for Scottish Premiership giants Celtic, he made his Hoops debut in a Europa League group stage win against Real Betis.

Having spent 14 months at Celtic Park, the 21-year-old believes he can benefit from his experiences north of the border.

Speaking of his European bow, Shaw said: “To play in the Europa League, that was a big achievement for me and my family.

“They were all really excited and proud for me to do that and it’s one [an experience] that I can have for the rest of my life, to say I’ve done it.

“It’s really good up there [at Celtic], the set-up is really good, all the lads are good, and I’ve learned a lot.

“From training with these kinds of players, I feel like I’ve gotten better as a player and I’ve developed a lot, so I’m ready to put it into games now.

“The experience more than anything, getting first team games in that kind of league [Scottish Premiership], I’m really happy.”
