Shrimps host Red Devils under the lights

5 March 2024

Crawley Town will be the visitors at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium on Tuesday 5 March, as we continue our Sky Bet League Two campaign under the lights.

Morecambe will be full of confidence after their weekend visit to Crewe Alexandra when they host Crawley Town on Tuesday night, and will be hoping to make it two wins in two.

The Shrimps got off to a difficult start against high-flying Crewe Alexandra at the Mornflake Stadium on Saturday, the Railwaymen going 2-0 up after goals from Elliott Nevitt and Shilow Tracey. Joe Adams pegged one back for the visitors with his first senior goal, before Jordan Slew pounced on a rebound to level proceedings in the 74th minute. Ged Brannan’s side did not settle for a point, and 10 minutes later Farrend Rawson bundled home the winner after brilliant work on the right side by Joel Senior.

Crawley Town did not play at the weekend, after their scheduled fixture against Barrow AFC was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at the Broadfield Stadium. The Red Devils last played on Saturday 24 February, when they made the trip to the Wham Stadium to face Accrington Stanley. A 68th minute Harry Ransom goal secured all three points for Crawley Town, the match finishing 1-0 to the visitors.

Tuesday night’s two sides last met at the start of February, when the Shrimps made the long journey south to the Broadfield Stadium. On this day, Morecambe came from behind thanks to two Ged Garner goals, his 85th minute strike ultimately securing the three points for Morecambe.

The Opposition

Crawley’s current campaign has not been too dissimilar to that of the Shrimps – 15 wins and four draws leaving the Red Devils on 49 points, just two behind Morecambe. Scott Lindsey’s side have been in good form recently, with three wins in their last three outings in the league.

Lindsey has held his post at the Broadfield Stadium since the January of 2023, after leaving his role at fellow League Two outfit Swindon Town.

Key Players

Danilo Orsi leads the goalscoring standings for the Red Devils, the forward scoring 17 goals in his 34 appearances so far this season at a rate of one goal per two games. Orsi made the move to the Broadfield Stadium in the summer transfer window.

Greek forward Klaidi Lolos has also been an important asset for Crawley Town so far this season, scoring seven and assisting five in all competitions.

The Man in the Middle

Matt Corlett will be the man in the middle on Tuesday evening, the referee taking charge of his 24th fixture of the season. With 107 cards brandished in his previous 23 fixtures, Corlett has averaged 4.4 yellows/game. Tuesday will be the first fixture involving the Shrimps he has officiated.

Assistants Mark Cunliffe and Lewis Raper will run the line at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium, with fourth official Ben Wyatt completing the team of officials.

Ged Brannan’s Pre-Match Thoughts

Morecambe manager Ged Brannan spoke on the challenge ahead. He said:

"Both teams are good footballing teams, it will be a good game tomorrow, I'm really looking forward to it."

"We've got to stop the way they play. We've been working on it today in training."

"As I keep saying every week, we've got a game plan for tomorrow's game and hopefully we will take the three points."

Team News

Long-term absentees Stu Moore, Donald Love, JJ McKiernan, and Brandon Barker remain sidelined for the Shrimps.
