Aaron Wildig relishing Sky Bet League One campaign

5 August 2021

Aaron Wildig says Morecambe will not be there to "make up the numbers'' in Sky Bet League One this season.

Speaking in the lead up to our opening day game against Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Saturday, the midfielder said: "We are set for the start of the season at Ipswich now and it is going to be a great occasion for us.

"But we are not going there to simply make the numbers up, we are in League One by merit and we deserve to be there.

"We know there will be a lot of clubs bigger than us in terms of stature but we will not be overawed and we will be there to give it a right go."

Wildig, who enters his seventh season with the club, believes Stephen Robinson's men are well prepared for the challenge that lies ahead.

"There have been a lot of changes over the summer on terms of players and in terms of the new gaffer coming in but we have worked really hard and things are coming together," he added.

"There were a lot of positives from the Blackpool game last Saturday and a lot of patterns of play we have been working on in training, were there for all to see.

"We are fine tuning things every day and I am sure we will be ready for Saturday.''
