Adams wants to continue making history at the Shrimps

22 August 2022

Derek Adams is targeting a place in Round Three of this season’s Carabao Cup and wants to continue making history at Morecambe Football Club.

The Shrimps saw off opposition from the Sky Bet Championship in Round One in the form of Stoke City, and the gaffer wants to progress to the next stage and relishes the thought of playing against some of the biggest clubs in the country.

“Morecambe is a Club that is evolving, going through the leagues like we have done, the fixtures that we have played in this competition and in the FA Cup,” said Adams.

“It is about getting through to the next round and creating a bit of history, if we can do that, it gives us a chance to play against some of the top sides in England.

“That is what we want to do, the next round is in November, so we have a bit of time to wait until then, but we will go there, get on the front-foot and defend as well as we have done.”

Paul Warne’s Rotherham United stand in the way of Round Three however, and Adams knows this game will be no walk in the park for his men.

“They are a very good side, they are in the Championship and they are on a good unbeaten run,” he added.

“They will change a good number of their squad to give other game time, like they did against Port Vale in the round before.

“We will assess them, we will go there with the team spirit and the attitude that we had on Saturday, that will give us the opportunity to progress to the next round.”
