Nathan Briggs named Community Captain!

26 February 2024

Nathan Briggs, from Morecambe FC Community Sports, has been chosen as our Community Captain as part of the Premier League's More Than A Game campaign.

The Premier League's More Than A Game campaign gives clubs at all levels of the game the opportunity to collectively highlight the impact of their work within local communities, showing how football is much more than a game.

Clubs across the Premier League, EFL and National League are naming a Community Captain, recognising key figures who make a difference in their area.

Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters said: “During this campaign, we will be celebrating Community Captains connected to clubs across the football pyramid. They are the unsung heroes and people who go above and beyond the call of duty to benefit the lives of others, demonstrating that football is so much more than a game.”

Before our home fixture against Grimsby Town, Nathan was awarded with a Community Captain armband and pennant, as well as a framed personalised image, by First Team Manager Ged Brannan and club captain Farrend Rawson, alongside Morecambe FC Community Sports CEO Stuart Glover.

Nathan has worked with the Morecambe FC Community Sports team since 2018, when he joined as a part-time administrator. After noticing the potential in Nathan, the Community Sports team invested in training and mentoring for him to help develop him into a Community Coach.

18 months ago, Nathan was appointed as the Premier League Kicks Co-ordinator alongside his role as a Community Coach, and the impact he has had on young people in our community has been invaluable.

Stuart Glover, Morecambe FC Community Sports CEO, said: "Kicks has gone from strength to strength under Nathan's stewardship. Nathan was instrumental in creating sessions in council-owned parks and open spaces which has enabled us to engage with different young people on their doorstep, in their communities."

"His efforts have resulted in high participation and retention numbers, allowing him to create a Kicks Council, consisting of six participants who give the young people a voice."

"There has also been a significant increase in participation in the girls-only sessions, which has resulted in us being able to deliver an inter-CCO competition."
