Clark anticipates Mazuma cup clash

20 March 2024

Ahead of the Shrimps Women’s return to the Mazuma, we caught up with joint-manager Nick Clark.

Clark, who returned to the management team for a second spell in January, lines up alongside co-manager Ben Anderson.

Having previously won the league with Morecambe FC Women Reserves, Clark boasts plenty of experience and success, and is delighted to be back.

He said: “I arrived back at Morecambe Women at the turn of the year and I have really enjoyed my time here so far, the club has progressed massively since I was last here.

“This season, we have unfortunately struggled a bit to get them much needed 3 points, though it’s not for a lack of trying. Whilte we don’t have as many points on the board as we’d perhaps like, this doesn’t reflect the level of performances put in by the team.

“Since I returned and joined up with Ben [Anderson], we’ve managed to pick up six points in five league games which has been a huge boost for as it could potentially be the difference between staying in the league or not.

“Picking up at least a point in all but one league game has been huge, especially against some top teams such as Radcliffe and Bolton.”

The Shrimps Women will be looking to put on a show and pick up an important victory when Altrincham FC Women come to town on Sunday 24 March and Clark, a lifelong Morecambe FC fan, is relishing the opportunity.

“For me personally, it will be a great personal achievement being able to manage at the stadium,” he added.

“Though overall, this shows how far women’s football has come when we can play league games in such stadiums.

“Personally, I would love to break the attendance record for a women’s game at the stadium while also targeting victory against a tough Altrincham side.

“We’re in a good vein of form and really looking forward to the game; playing in front of our incredible supporters is huge, I hope we can make the Mazuma our home and I know the team feels the same.

“If you can get behind the women and get down to show your support, it would be much appreciated, we’d love to beat the previous attendance record of 654.

“Come on you Shrimps!”
